Mr. Bigby Wolf.

The character that I chose to focus on was Mr. Bigby Wolf. Based on the reading I learned that contrary to the widely had a impression that he use to be a big bad wolf and use to huff and puff and blow houses down, he has become the sheriff of the underground Fabletown Community. Additionally he shows charity to the pig, who’s straw house he blew down a long time ago by letting him crash on his couch when he escapes from the “farm” where the unnormal fables live. In the beginning B. Wolf is a busy responsible kind of guy. After the information about the kidnapping is revealed he goes to Snow White with the story and shows a certain amount of sympathy and perhaps empathy about the situation and Snow White’s hated of Jack. Upon examining the scene of the crime B. Wolf thoughtfully accuses Jack of the crime and holds him in custody so he can investigate his idea of the real perpetrator. B. Wolf is a thoughtful investigator following instinct and leads. He is a remarkable sheriff. And it seems like he is on the right path to finding out what happened to Rose Red.

Cinderella.

Cinderella would live her life today as a rich person with a lot of people around her. She would probably have paparazzi all over her asking her questions about her family, especially her step sisters and step mother. I also think she would move on in life and move to hollywood and start her own show and make many new friends.

Red riding hood

In the real Red Riding Hood a wolf wants to eat the girl but is scared to do so in public. Red riding hood is carrying a basket collecting flowers. Just like in the story " E " in the first comic the author shows a little girl roaming around a lonely city that looks scary. In the real Red Riding Hood the famous girl that wears the red dress looks and seems innocent meanwhile in the comic "E" the girl sounds wild and scary. For example in Red Riding Hood she would hang out in clam daylight areas while in "E" she would hang out in scary dark lonely places and carry weapons that would hurt anybody. I think the author used red riding hood as an evil character in "E" because he wanted to show something different from the real version.

Also in the original story of Red Riding Hood the little country girl lived in a village and had a mother that was excessively found of her. Her grandmother doted on her still more that they had made the red hood for her. It suited the little girl so well that everybody called her Little Red Riding Hood. In the comic "E" the girl that appears to be similar to Little Red Riding Hood looks and sounds very different from her. In the comic she appears with dark black hair looking like an old lady merely existing with little hope for any future. But in the original story of Red Riding Hood the little girl looks like a little girl whose just starting to live her life, perhaps on the cusp of teenage years. Also in the comic "E" Red Riding Hood appears to be fighting with a horrifying monster, similar to the original where she is dealing with the wolf.

To conclude, both novels are portrayed differently. In the original one she's very sensitive as a person and she is wondering around a clam world picking flowers etc. on a mission to grandma’s house. Meanwhile in "E" she is fighting evil stuff and carrying weapons. She also appears as an angry woman when she says "ARGGHH" in big red letters. I think the author chose Red Riding Hood and decided to portray her as an evil person to show two different personalities and different images. In perspective these two images of the same yet very different persons appeal to two different audiences.

work from today 11/14/11

In E1 Little Red Riding Hood is in the middle of no where wearing her typical red outfit. I knew from the start that this was Red Riding Hood because of her outfit, and there could not be any other the author could have used. The scene looks very foggy, which also makes it look scary and creepy with the light green colors. It also looks like the city has been destroyed. I also know this is Red Riding Hood because someone said "She'll be wondering where I am by now". I also know this is Red Riding Hood because in the comic "E1" the author made Red Riding Hood wear her basket.

Plots 11/2/2011

One of the plot points from DC Comic “Batman, The Dark Night Returns” part one is Bruce Wayne dealing with no longer being active as Batman.  The struggle is evident on pages 15-17 where the panels depict Bruce Wayne watching the news and then a movie.  At the end of the movie Bruce Wayne begins to become hysterical about all of the violence in Gotham City.
Another plot point is the ‘rehabilitation’ of Harvey Dent and his plastic surgery.  Harvey Dent’s release back into main stream society is debated by both Commissioner James Gordan, pessimistically, and by Bruce Wayne, optimistically, on page 10 of the graphic novel. Additionally the ‘disappearance’ of Harvey Dent builds the plot because he gave a public speech on how he has been rehabilitated and then just vanishes.

If I were Superman...

One super power that I would love to have from superman is “x-ray vision”.  This power is great because of all the good that I could do with it.  Such as see things that people are trying to hide under their coats like a gun or a knife.  Also it would be great to be able to see what is going on in the next room in case there was a robbery or some gun shots fired.  I wouldn’t have to put myself in to danger without knowing what I would be walking in to and that is a big plus.  On the negative side, people would eventually find out and think that I was not normal. They would start to treat me differently and push me away. Also I’m sure that the government would get involved and take me away to use me at an airport or something and that isn’t how I want to spend my life, scanning people and luggage for bombs.

Red cape man Activity.

I think that Clark and Pa Kent are unsure about Clark’s age because he was found in a rocket as a baby.  So Pa Kent doesn’t have an actual birthdate for Clark.  Clark’s powers are uncertain because he is from another planet and no one on this planet knows anyone form that planet so there isn’t anyone to use as a point of reference to determine what Clark’s powers could possibly be. I think Pa Kent and Martha are concerned with how Clark is dealing with the realization of his powers and the fact that he is different from all the other kids that he knows. They see him as withdrawing as evident in the dinner conversation with Lana.

Assessment

Upon reading the two literary works, “Witch” and “Wolverine” there are many similarities and differences.  These similarities and differences are well emphasized in the use of the color, shadow, and panel size used for each text.  The color, shadow, and panel size plays a significant part in setting the mood for each part of the separate text.  Additionally the color can enhance or distract from the text.  In the two works reviewed there are wonderful examples of these working with the text and against the text.

The use of color in comics is paramount because it has to be able to catch the eye.  The written text can provide a great story but the art must grab the reader to enhance the imagination to provide to full experience of reading the comic.  In the comic “Witch” there are very vivid colors that set the stage for the text.  For example the cover or title page is a dull orange with a vividly clear, almost to the point of sharp, picture of the main character and her familiar.  This is done to set the tone that the main character is the focus of the story and the use of orange, which is a secondary color, is used to indicate that the rest outside of the main character is not the focus of the story.  In the comic “Wolverine” the title page is very similar with the focus on the main character, but the colors are not as vivid.  This may be attributed to age and the technology and printing capacity of the period that the comic was released, but it also speaks of inclusion.  Blue is a primary color and indicates that the totality of the comic is equally important, not just the main character.

The use of shadow in the comic provides graphic depth.  The attempted illusion of dimension is better presented in the comic “Witch” because it is a more recent print.  The dated technology used to illustrate shadow in “Wolverine” is good, but not nearly as impressive as in “Witch”. An excellent example of the use of shadow in “Which” is when the main character is speaking to the police officer and admitting to the gang violence.  Note the shadowing around the police officer.  It creates the illusion that the is almost three dimensional.  This effect is commonly used throughout the selection and is very effective.  In the section of “Wolverine” there are attempts at shadowing, but most of the art work is very two dimensional.  The best attempt is in the cover where the color is most vivid.

The use of panel size and placement is important because it leads the readers eye.  As with art we are trained to see from top left corner to right and the eye catches the middle sections.  Therefore placement is vital to the story line layout because the flow must be constant and not interrupt or the reader will lose interest.  The use of panel size in both “Witch” and “Wolverine” is consistent in the fact that they both use small panel and large panels and a combination of the two to create the flow.  However in “Witch” the panels are placed more consistently in a pattern.  Whereas in “Wolverine” the use of the panels is random and almost to the point of being erratic.  It seems to be easier to follow “Witch” with the panel layout, but “Wolverine” is more difficult because it breaks up more often.

To conclude, both selections demonstrate use of color, shadow, and panel size in similar and different ways.  The comic book art work has come a long way and has improved the use of these techniques to provide the reader with a comprehensive pairing between text and art.

The Wolverine...

Upon reading the “Wolverine” comic I have learned that the character Wolverine is a Canadian, or at least from the Canadian territory as indicated by the statement “This is home to me, the Canadian Rockies- Land as stark an’ elemental as my soul”  This also indicates that he is a very simple person.  The illusion to his soul as elemental translates to Wolverine is very basic as elements are the building blocks for everything.  Additionally, Wolverine is a caring person as illustrated by the statement  “They were good men. Experienced. Well-Armed. Careful. Sucker’s never had a chance.”  Also he is compassionate, as illustrated by the statement “I wish there was another way.” While he was fighting with the bear and then when he found that barbed arrow in the bear he was upset and set out to track down the hunter that did this to the bear and caused the bear to kill “seven men, three women, five kids.”  Wolverine did not kill the man in the bar because he isn’t a murderer and he knows that justice must be served in it’s own course.  This suggests that Wolverine is a man of concense and doesn't believe in killing unless necessary.

Kylie Woods

In the comic story " witch " i found to many shocking moments but there was one that i never saw it coming. One of them was on page 11 when Kylie's imaginary friend releases, i thought this moment was very shocking because at first i thought Kylie was a manic, because at the beginning  it shows her with with her legs crossed and drinking Starbucks and wearing a scarf inside her house. I thought she was regular fake witch who just wanted attention but i was very wrong. Another scene that was very shocking was when Kylie was at the principal's office and the principals looks at her like she's a manic, as she tells him and points her finger across her head saying " i know this sounds crazy but i have a monster living in my head " the principal looks at her with a weird face. I was shocked when the monster that lives in kylie imagination showed up in a suit. These two moments are somehow familiar for the fact that they are both shocking, but different for having different art work.

Imaginary friends are...

A imaginary friend is someone who is unreal. People use there imagation and pretend they are talking to someone. This is often on childhood and as kids grow up and become adults it stays in them. But sometimes it isn't bad for an adult to have someone besides them to talk to, that is imaginary. Sometimes imaginary friends can be evil and sometimes helpful.

One scary scene of jaws.

What made the movie scary was the girl was crying, moaning, breathing deep trying to get help. Also her face expression made her look like she couldn't get of what ever was stopping her from escaping.

3 scary scenes

One of the scary scenes in '' halloween nightdance "  was when ben's girlfriend found him hanging, it was one awful scene that i wouldn't describe it. I think micheal myers didn't care and left him burning and hanging. A second scene that was scary was when Lisa was riding the horse at the park and she saw the murderer shadow. I felt like if i experienced what lisa saw i would've had fallen down the horse. A third scene that i found scary was when marcie got stabbed in the back in front of her lover. It was very scary seeing someone innocent die slowly.

30 days of Night and Nightdance...

The art and drawings from "Night Dance" tells three different stories that merge into one at the end. The different scenes give an impression of danger, the normal life of a young girl, and an abandoned place.  In “30 Days of Night" it talks about one topic only. That topic is the artwork. That is one of the difference between the two works.  They are similar to the fact that they both are comics and have similar drawings and scenes.  But they have different messages or meanings that they are attempting to convey.  The art in "Night Dance " is somehow the same as "30 Days of Night ". But they both have different meanings but similar drawings. For example in "30 Days of Night " they show a dark cloud with snowflakes, all abandoned in the middle of nowhere.  Similarly in "Night Dance " there is a scene where both characters , Marcie and Ryan, are located somewhere abandoned with the moon shining bright and no one around just like in "30 Days of Night".  Another scene in "30 Days of Night " that is similar to "Night Dance" is when two officers are sitting in the patrol car driving and talking; similar to when Marcie and Ryan are talking in the car when they were driving to Russellville. There are differences in the artwork in both stories.  One example is present in "30 Days of Night" when one of the vampires ends up dyeing by splattering blood all over.  While in "Night Dance" Marcie dies slowly. Another example is when the two cops are in the car wearing cop uniforms in "30 Days of Night " and in "Night Dance" Marcie and Ryan are wearing regular clothes.  Another example of difference between the art work is the vampire and the guy who kidnapped Ben. There face is completely different one obviously looks like a vampire and the other one looks like he is a murderer.

Boogeyman

Well the boogeyman is a monster who is in a child's closet or under there bed and when the child goes to  the closet he snatches and eats them if they don't listen to their parents. Parents mostly use the boogieman to scare their kids when they are not doing the right thing.

Predator.

Like a snake eating its own tail. I say Jennifer is a predator because she is being sneaky and gets away with anything. Jenifer got away with convincing a guy that was wandering in the woods. She convinced Jim with her hideously black eyes to adopt her. Jim, had shot a guy who carried a axe in the woods. The guy with the axe was apparently hurting Jennifer and was warned a few times to drop the axe. But it was to late, now Jennifer's shows a innocent side that makes her look like she's been threw a lot, and makes her look like she's hopeless with need of help but That’s one of her methods to have her victims closer, so she can eat them. For example Snakes can have their victims close but they have their tail even closer. Jennifer is similar to this for having Jim's family close to her so she can eat them them apart as a family. Jennifer can also be considered a predator when she bites Jim's wife. Then towards the end she tries to bite Jim but he begs her not to. Jim had to put Jenifer in the house farm after all this conflict. Somehow Jim finds out in the news paper that there is a missing girl and he rushes to the farm house to get Jenifer and he finds her eating someone who knows how. This clearly shows how she's a predator. SOME ONE WHO PREYS THEIR VICTIM.

A lion eating a zebra. I say Jenifer is a Predator because she preys her victims by eating and biting them. A Lion preys a zebra by being obvious and not loosing any time and attacking them. This statement clearly relates to Jenifer because in one of the scenes Jenifer bites Jim's wife without loosing anytime,  having her end up on the floor  yelling " SHE BIT ME! THE LITTLE WITCH BIT ME! " Jenifer couldn't hide anything she did because one of jim's kids saw what happened. Now that Jim's wife is all terrified she decides to move out the house with her kids. so clearly jennifer is An organism that lives by preying on other organisms.

Isolation.

Jim in this scene looks like he's isolated and looks stressed because he can't get jenifer of him.. Since she now is obessed with him. He looks like he's asking for help to get her away but it's to late because he didn't know what he got into.  In this picture it shows he's yelling with he's mouth open.

The character looks isolated because the picture shows dark colors and shows that he's depressed and in pain. he's also thrown in a table and just shwos that he gave up for something not worth it.

In this scene looks very isolated and looks like he's plotting something. He's face shows an angry attitude. And the background shows he's alone somewhere in the middle of nowhere. And makes him look more ISOLATED

Jenifer smelled like.....

I think jenifer smelled like a dirty sewer. She also looked like she was eatten by animals and insects. She was also hungry and ate human bodies thats what made her look disgusting, and made her reeked

Jennifer

The comic ' Jennifer ' is about a girl that is found in the woods by a old guy. He finds a guy holding a Axe and after that he shoots him... and notices theres a women. Jennifer is a ugly girl that has a ugly face that doesn't look normal. He helps jennifer out.. and adopts her to his family. Jim then finds out jennifer likes him and takes him away from hes wife.. and then jennifer kills him... the meaning of the story was that karma is a bitch and everything goes back to the person. Since Jim killed a guy thinking it was jennifer he got what he got what she wanted and killed jim.

Assessment One irony

The comic book " The crow " it shows the readers that theres many examples of life. One of them is despair, Despair  means hopeless. And in the story one of the main characters (  Eric Draven ) is bascially hopeless in life and doesn't have anybody. The reason being Eric is depressed and hopeless in life is because he's fiancee, and him were assaulted by some bad people that are consired gang memebers after shellys and erics car breaks down. Eric is shot in the head and gets paralyzed. While he's hurt in the floor and all he can watch is he's fiancee get hurt and raped by the gang thugs. Now shelly and eric are left for death in the side of the road.

Eric, then takes revenge for his death and the death of the woman he loved. With the help of a crow. Eric then stays in the house him and shelly shared spending most of his time there lost in memories of her. Eric is emotional pain he also wanted to cut himself. The crow acts like guide and goad both at the same time giving eric information to help dwelling on shellys death. The bird is basically the person who can guide eric for revenge. A year later Eric is reborn and hunts down and kills his murderers before returning afterlife.

Despair.

The word despair means hopelessness. And in the crow Eric was  hopeless because he didn't feel like he help he's girlfriend when she got beat and up raped. at the end he eric felt like reveange was the best bet but he couldn't really do anything.. because got beat up and couldn't move. eric also feels helpless and feels like he has lost everything.

drama masks

I think the artist chose the mark as an example of a tragedy. I think the this because, he's mask looks evil, and shows that he looks like a bad person. He also shows that he has so much to hide under that mask. Eric is somehow trying to hide he's feelings. He possibly killed somebody and is hiding.

My comix

Hey, My name is Paul Rodriguez And I'm the best, I love traveling all over the world. I love trying new things, i also like adventures. With that being all said. I like reading all kinds of comic books. One of the favorite comic " SpiderMan ". SpiderMan is about a guy who gets bitten by a spider at first and then gets some kind of weird power that lets him have spider webs to get around. He brings problems at first but then helps the community out. This is my favorite comic as the reason being that i love fiction comics.
