The comic book " The crow " it shows the readers that theres many examples of life. One of them is despair, Despair means hopeless. And in the story one of the main characters ( Eric Draven ) is bascially hopeless in life and doesn't have anybody. The reason being Eric is depressed and hopeless in life is because he's fiancee, and him were assaulted by some bad people that are consired gang memebers after shellys and erics car breaks down. Eric is shot in the head and gets paralyzed. While he's hurt in the floor and all he can watch is he's fiancee get hurt and raped by the gang thugs. Now shelly and eric are left for death in the side of the road.
Eric, then takes revenge for his death and the death of the woman he loved. With the help of a crow. Eric then stays in the house him and shelly shared spending most of his time there lost in memories of her. Eric is emotional pain he also wanted to cut himself. The crow acts like guide and goad both at the same time giving eric information to help dwelling on shellys death. The bird is basically the person who can guide eric for revenge. A year later Eric is reborn and hunts down and kills his murderers before returning afterlife.
